PLANTCRAFT Triple Timber Wheelie Bin Enclosure
The PLANTCRAFT triple timber bin enclosure is designed to hide and organise three household wheelie bins behind individual timber doors while still allowing each bin to be removed separately on collection day.
The current model is SKU GBGWODPCW3DA. Edisons lists overall dimensions of approximately 220cm across the front, 96cm deep and 122cm high, with a product weight of 32kg.
It is built from treated fir timber with approximately 1cm-thick timber panels and is designed for up to three bins with a published maximum individual-bin size of 73 × 93 × 112cm.
The design includes three front doors, separate lifting top sections, tension-type lid hardware and chains intended to link the enclosure lids with the wheelie-bin lids.
The most important point before buying is space. This is a substantial outdoor enclosure more than two metres wide, and it also needs sufficient room in front for doors and wheelie bins to roll in and out.
Testing statement: Firebusters has not personally assembled or long-term weather tested this enclosure. Specifications and assembly information are based on the current Edisons listing and PLANTCRAFT instruction manual checked in September 2026.

Measure Your Actual Bins — Do Not Rely on the 240L Label Alone
Edisons describes the enclosure as suitable for three standard 240L wheelie bins.
However, council-bin dimensions are not necessarily identical simply because two bins have the same litre capacity.
The more useful specification is the published maximum individual-bin size of 73cm wide × 93cm deep × 112cm high.
Measure each of your bins before ordering, including:
- width across the widest part of the bin;
- depth including wheels, handles and lid overhang;
- overall height with the lid closed;
- location and shape of the lid handle; and
- how far the bin needs to move forward before it can be tilted onto its wheels.
Allow some clearance rather than treating the maximum published measurements as an ideal exact fit.
The Actual Footprint Is Significant
Edisons labels the product dimensions as 96 × 220 × 122cm.
For practical planning, that means the enclosure spans approximately 2.2 metres across the front, extends approximately 96cm from front to back and reaches about 122cm high.
You also need working space around those dimensions.
At the front, allow sufficient clearance to:
- open each front door;
- roll a bin completely out;
- tilt the bin onto its wheels; and
- move it towards the collection point.
Above the enclosure, make sure each top lid can rise without hitting eaves, shelves, pipework, vegetation or another structure.
A narrow side passage may technically have enough room for a 96cm-deep enclosure but still be impractical once door and bin movement are considered.
The Manual Requires a Flat, Level Base
The PLANTCRAFT assembly manual gives a direct installation instruction:
The bin shed must be mounted on a flat, level surface such as a concrete slab.
This is stronger guidance than simply saying a flat surface is preferable.
A level base helps keep the long 2.2m enclosure square so the three doors, lid assemblies and latches remain aligned.
An uneven base can twist the structure and make doors harder to close, place unusual loads on hinges, or leave the enclosure unstable.
Suitable site preparation is therefore part of the purchase decision.
If you intend to install it on pavers, decking or another surface rather than a concrete slab, confirm that the surface is flat, structurally suitable and consistent with the manufacturer’s installation requirements before proceeding.
Does It Have a Floor?
The illustrated parts list and assembly drawings do not show a full timber floor panel beneath the three bins.
The enclosure structure is assembled around the prepared site surface, so the bins effectively stand on that surface.
This has several practical consequences.
The ground below the enclosure should:
- remain level under wheel loads;
- allow bins to roll smoothly through the front openings;
- avoid holding water around the timber structure;
- be easy to sweep or clean; and
- not develop large gaps, settlement or movement over time.
A concrete slab is particularly straightforward because the bins can roll directly across it without a floor lip.
Do Not Assume It Includes Ground Anchors
The manual’s illustrated parts list shows the timber components, screws, bolts, catches, chains and lid-support hardware required to assemble the enclosure.
Firebusters could not identify a separate ground-anchoring kit or published wind-load anchoring specification in the current parts list.
That means the statement that the enclosure must be on a flat level surface should not be interpreted as evidence of a tested anchoring system.
The complete enclosure weighs approximately 32kg, but its size gives wind a relatively large surface to act against.
If the proposed site is particularly exposed to strong winds, seek suitable advice about placement or restraint rather than assuming the 32kg dead weight alone makes the structure secure.
Treated Fir Timber: What Is Actually Confirmed?
The current Edisons listing describes the enclosure as manufactured from treated fir timber with approximately 1cm-thick panels.
It also labels the product as weather resistant.
What the published information does not provide is equally important.
Firebusters could not find a detailed specification for:
- the exact timber treatment process;
- treatment hazard class;
- a termite-resistance rating;
- a published re-oiling interval;
- a particular exterior stain or coating system; or
- a guaranteed service life in coastal, tropical or exposed locations.
For that reason, we would not tell buyers that it needs to be oiled exactly once or twice a year, as the original draft suggested.
A better approach is to inspect the timber regularly and maintain its exterior finish according to its actual condition and any updated supplier instructions.
Timber Maintenance
Even treated timber changes appearance outdoors.
Sunlight, repeated wetting and drying, dirt and local climate can affect colour and surface condition over time.
Useful ownership checks include:
- inspect timber for splitting, checking or excessive weathering;
- look for loose screws and joints;
- check door alignment;
- inspect lid-support hardware;
- check chains and attachment points;
- look for corrosion on metal hardware;
- remove leaves and rubbish trapped around the base;
- avoid allowing soil or mulch to build up against lower timber members; and
- renew an exterior-compatible timber finish when its condition indicates this is needed.
If applying a new coating or timber treatment, make sure it is compatible with the existing timber treatment and suitable for outdoor use.
Three Doors Make Collection-Day Access Easier
The front is divided into three individually opening sections.
This means one bin can be removed without having to move the other two first.
That is useful where a household has separate general waste, recycling and green-waste collections on different schedules.
The slatted timber construction also leaves ventilation gaps rather than creating a fully sealed cabinet.
Ventilation is useful around bins because completely enclosing residual moisture and odours can make the space unpleasant, although the slatted construction also means the enclosure should not be described as weatherproof or pest-proof.
How the Chain-Linked Lids Work
PLANTCRAFT supplies chains intended to connect the lifting enclosure lids with the handles or lid arrangement of the wheelie bins.
When configured appropriately, lifting the timber top can also raise the bin lid.
The practical advantage is that household rubbish can be placed into the bin without separately opening two lids.
The exact effectiveness of this feature depends on the particular bin:
- location of the bin-lid handle;
- lid shape;
- chain length and attachment point;
- how centrally the bin sits inside the enclosure; and
- whether enough slack remains for the lid to close correctly.
Test the linkage after assembly. The chain should assist lid movement without pulling the bin out of position or holding its lid partly open.
Tension-Type Lid Hardware
The retailer describes the lifting tops as using hold-open tension hinges, and the manual shows dedicated support hardware on each of the three lid assemblies.
This helps hold a lid during rubbish disposal instead of relying on the user to support the timber top with one hand.
Even with support hardware fitted, keep fingers clear of hinge and closing points.
Periodically check that the supports remain securely attached and that the lids operate smoothly without binding.
If a lid no longer stays in its intended position, inspect the hardware rather than relying on an improvised prop.
Locks and Wildlife Claims
Edisons describes the front-door hardware as anti-rust brass locks or catches and says the closed enclosure can help deter wildlife from accessing bins.
That is a reasonable practical function of closed doors, but buyers should not interpret it as a tested wildlife-proof or security-rated enclosure.
A persistent animal may exploit gaps, slats or an incorrectly latched door.
Likewise, the catches should not be regarded as high-security locks for protecting valuable equipment.
The enclosure’s main purpose is household bin organisation and concealment.
Assembly: This Is More Than a Tiny Flat-Pack
The product arrives in two cartons and requires assembly.
The manual’s parts diagrams show a substantial number of panels, structural rails, lid sections, screws, bolts, chains and support components.
Assembly involves constructing three door/lid sections and connecting them into the complete approximately 2.2m-wide enclosure.
Before starting:
- check all components against the parts diagram;
- work on a large, flat area;
- keep hardware separated by size;
- follow the numbered assembly sequence;
- avoid fully forcing misaligned components together;
- check the structure remains square as sections are joined; and
- get assistance where holding larger panels in position becomes awkward.
The current documentation does not support a claim that assembly requires only a screwdriver and hammer, so Firebusters would simply recommend following the manual and having normal assembly tools available.
Timber Triple Bin vs Metal Bin Enclosure
A timber enclosure is partly an appearance choice.
The natural slatted finish may suit landscaped yards, fences and timber features better than a metal storage unit.
On the other hand, buyers who prefer lower-maintenance metal construction may want to compare a galvanised-steel enclosure.
The existing Firebusters guide to the PLANTCRAFT double steel model provides another option for households that only need two bins:
See the PLANTCRAFT Double Steel Wheelie Bin Enclosure Guide
Choose primarily according to your bin count, dimensions, installation space and preferred maintenance level rather than appearance alone.
Who Does This Enclosure Suit?
| Situation | Likely Fit |
|---|---|
| Household with three compatible 240L bins | Strong intended use, provided each bin stays within published dimensions. |
| Wide side yard or driveway | Potentially suitable where there is approximately 2.2m of width plus working clearance. |
| Landscaped garden setting | Natural timber appearance may blend more easily than steel. |
| Very narrow side passage | Check the 96cm depth plus front-door and bin-removal clearance carefully. |
| Buyer wanting zero exterior maintenance | Timber may not be the best material choice; compare metal alternatives. |
| Highly exposed windy site | No model-specific wind rating or anchoring specification was identified; assess the site before installation. |

Firebusters Practical Recommendation
The PLANTCRAFT triple timber enclosure is a useful option for a household that genuinely has three compatible wheelie bins and wants them concealed behind one coordinated structure.
Its key advantages are the individual front doors, three lifting top sections, slatted ventilation and the chain-assisted bin-lid arrangement.
The verified dimensions also make it easier to assess properly before purchase: approximately 220cm wide, 96cm deep and 122cm high, with a 32kg assembled weight.
The biggest considerations are installation space and timber ownership. It requires a flat, level base, and the available documentation does not give a detailed timber-treatment class, fixed maintenance interval, wind rating or dedicated anchoring specification.
Our recommendation: consider it where you have three wheelie bins within the published 73 × 93 × 112cm limit, enough room for the 2.2m-wide enclosure and a suitable flat, level installation area. If minimal timber maintenance is a higher priority than natural appearance, compare a galvanised-steel bin enclosure before deciding.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will it fit three 240L council bins?
Edisons says the enclosure is designed for three standard 240L wheelie bins. The safer check is physical size: each bin should fit within the published maximum dimensions of 73 × 93 × 112cm.
What are the overall dimensions?
The current product listing gives 96 × 220 × 122cm. In practical orientation, allow approximately 220cm across the front, 96cm depth and 122cm height.
How much does it weigh?
The published assembled product weight is approximately 32kg.
What timber is used?
Edisons lists treated fir timber with approximately 1cm-thick timber panels.
Is the timber termite resistant?
No specific termite-resistance rating or timber-treatment hazard class was found in the current product documentation reviewed by Firebusters.
Does it have a floor?
The manual’s illustrated parts list does not show a complete floor panel. The bins appear to stand directly on the prepared installation surface.
What sort of base does it need?
The manufacturer manual says the bin shed must be mounted on a flat, level surface such as a concrete slab.
Is anchoring hardware supplied?
The assembly manual shows the screws, bolts, catches, chains and lid hardware used to construct the enclosure, but Firebusters did not identify a dedicated ground-anchor kit or wind-rating specification.
Do the timber lids open the wheelie-bin lids?
Chains are supplied so the enclosure lid can be linked with a compatible bin-lid handle. Correct operation depends on the design and positioning of the individual bin.
Will it keep animals out?
Edisons says the closed doors and brass catches help deter wildlife. Firebusters would treat that as a deterrent rather than describing the enclosure as certified animal-proof.
How often should I oil the timber?
No fixed re-oiling schedule was found in the current manufacturer documentation. Inspect the finish periodically and maintain it according to condition and any suitable exterior timber-treatment instructions.
