BLUETTI AC300 + B300 Review: 3000W Backup Power

On this page

Emergency power • Australian buyer’s guide

The BLUETTI AC300 with one B300 expansion battery is a modular battery power system for temporary home backup, off-grid work and larger camping setups. The AC300 supplies up to 3,000W of continuous AC output, while the included original B300 stores a nominal 3,072Wh of energy. Unlike a one-piece portable power station, the AC300 has no internal battery and needs an attached, compatible expansion battery to operate.

Its attraction is the combination of substantial output and the option to add storage later. Its trade-offs are weight, initial setup, additional cables and a real need to plan what you will power. This guide is based on published manufacturer, retailer and Australian safety sources, not a personal product performance assessment.

Quick verdict: who should consider this bundle?

Consider it if: you want a high-output, rechargeable system for selected appliances during outages, a stationary remote-work setup or a well-planned caravan installation with adequate space and payload. The modular arrangement lets you start with one B300 and expand capacity if your needs justify the extra cost.

Look elsewhere if: you want to lift one small unit into a vehicle, only need laptop and phone charging, expect a complete home battery installation straight from the carton or require continuous protection for critical medical equipment. A smaller integrated power station or a professionally specified fixed backup system may suit those jobs better.

Our recommendation: the AC300 + original B300 is most appealing as a semi-permanent, accessible backup station, not as a light, frequently moved camping power pack. Verify you are purchasing the original 3,072Wh B300 version rather than the newer B300K bundle.

The manufacturer lists six Australian 220–240V AC outlets with a combined 3,000W output. Do not interpret 3,000W as available from every socket simultaneously. Individual sockets, connected leads and appliances have their own ratings.

Important: original B300 versus B300K

The original B300 stores 3,072Wh and weighs around 36.1kg. The separate B300K stores 2,764.8Wh and is a different expansion battery. The AC300 is offered with either battery in different packages, but their capacities and dimensions are not interchangeable as product facts.

For specifications, refer to the official AC300 + original B300 page. The separate B300K listing is included here only to explain why buyers need to check the battery version.

The My Generator AC300 + B300 product listing provides several configurations under one product family and contains a specification entry indicating 6,144Wh. That capacity corresponds to two 3,072Wh batteries, not the one-battery package. Check the selected SKU and basket rather than relying on a shared product table.

How long will one B300 battery last?

A 3,072Wh rating describes stored energy, while 3,000W describes maximum continuous output. Those are different measurements. Large output does not mean long runtime at a large load. To make practical plans, start with the appliance wattage and expected operating pattern.

The following examples use a simple 80% planning allowance from the nominal battery capacity, divided by a constant load. They are illustrations rather than performance measurements or manufacturer runtime predictions. Actual results change with conversion losses, battery state of charge, inverter standby use, temperature and the appliance involved.

60W communications / lighting loadAbout 40 hours
150W combined small appliancesAbout 16 hours
500W steady loadAbout 4.9 hours
1,000W steady loadAbout 2.5 hours
2,000W steady loadAbout 1.2 hours

For example, a refrigerator may cycle on and off rather than draw a constant 150W. A compressor may also draw higher starting current. A kettle, heater or power tool may demand much more power while operating, even if used briefly. Check the appliance label and allow a margin. Recalculate when more B300 batteries are added rather than assuming every additional battery produces the same result in every situation.

What can the AC300 power in practice?

Household outage essentials

Potential uses include a fridge or freezer, lights, router, phone chargers and a computer, provided their combined operating and starting requirements remain within the system and outlet ratings. For an outage, prioritise food storage, communications and essential lighting before comfort appliances. A high-wattage heater or kettle can use a substantial share of the battery very quickly.

Camping and remote property setups

At a base camp, the system could run selected mains-powered equipment without fuel-engine exhaust during normal battery operation. However, at roughly 57.7kg across two large modules, it needs a carefully planned position. Account for carrying capacity, tie-down arrangements, access to the controls, airflow and the route to your campsite. It is not a sensible substitute for a small power bank on a short walk.

Trade tools and temporary worksites

A 3,000W total output may support many appropriately rated tools and lights, but starting surge, tool duty cycle and simultaneous demand matter. This is not evidence of suitability for every saw, compressor or welder. Check the equipment’s manufacturer rating and its starting requirements before assuming compatibility. Electrical leads and distribution equipment must also be correctly rated and kept in safe condition.

Charging options — and the 5,400W trap

BLUETTI specifies up to 2,400W of solar input with suitable panels, plus up to 3,000W AC charging where the electrical supply and charging lead allow it. The headline 5,400W combined input is a multiple-battery figure: the manufacturer and retailer identify a requirement for at least two B300 modules. This listed package contains only one.

  • Mains charging: a higher AC charging setting may require a separately supplied 15A-rated charging lead and a compatible outlet. Never adapt a 15A plug to an ordinary 10A socket.
  • Solar charging: the AC300 has two PV inputs; BLUETTI specifies a 12–150V DC input range and 12A per input. Check panel open-circuit voltage, array wiring and connector compatibility against the Australian model instructions.
  • Generator charging: may be possible with a compatible fuel generator and the correct supply arrangement. Follow both manufacturers’ instructions; fuel generators must remain outdoors.
  • Vehicle charging: supported in certain configurations, but low vehicle-input power can mean long charging times. Do not assume a short drive can replenish a 3kWh battery.
  • Additional batteries: capacity expansion can support longer use and, in permitted configurations, higher total charging input. Confirm accessory and firmware compatibility before ordering.

Solar input is not permission to connect rooftop panels or switchboard circuits yourself. Where fixed electrical work is involved, use a licensed electrician. The official BLUETTI user-guide library is the starting point for connection diagrams and the applicable Australian instructions.

Home backup and UPS: what buyers should know

Used as a portable source, the AC300 can power selected appliances plugged into its rated outputs. That is different from supplying the circuits inside your home. To supply fixed wiring, you need a suitable professionally designed connection with the required switching and protection. Never back-feed a house through a power point or improvised lead. Energy Safe Victoria warns that improper connections can endanger occupants, neighbours and electricity workers.

BLUETTI markets UPS or backup functionality for the AC300 family, but available modes and transfer behaviour depend on configuration. Standby transfer is described by the manufacturer as approximately 20 milliseconds, which may not be suitable for every sensitive device. Do not treat this consumer power station as a confirmed uninterrupted supply for medical equipment, life-safety systems or other critical loads.

Firebusters Operational Perspective: practical setup and upkeep

The practical question is not only whether the AC300 produces enough power. It is whether the equipment can be positioned safely, recharged when needed and operated by the people who will actually use it during an outage or remote trip. The two modules should have a stable, dry, ventilated location close to the intended appliances without creating cable-trip hazards.

  • Plan access: allow space to view the display and reach the output switches and connections without moving heavy objects.
  • Manage weight: arrange appropriate assistance for lifting and transporting each module; protect it from shifting in a vehicle.
  • Label loads: list the essential appliances and their normal and starting wattages. Decide which can run together.
  • Keep approved accessories together: verify the battery link cable and intended AC/DC charge leads are present.
  • Refresh the battery: follow the B300 manufacturer’s storage and recharging guidance, including routine state-of-charge checks.
  • Make a simple outage card: record where the system is stored, what can be connected, when to recharge and who to contact if a fault appears.

Safety and operating precautions

Lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) is a particular lithium-battery chemistry, but it still requires correct charging, storage and electrical protection. Fire and Rescue NSW advises keeping rechargeable equipment away from heat and moisture, using compatible charging equipment and avoiding damaged batteries. Use the actual BLUETTI instructions for this model.

  • Do not use damaged equipment: stop if a module is unusually hot, swollen, leaking, cracked or giving off abnormal smells or noises.
  • Leave ventilation clear: do not cover cooling openings, surround modules with bedding or place them beside flammable stored goods.
  • Protect from water: the AC300 is not waterproof. Avoid rain, wet floors, direct sun and unsuitable charging locations.
  • Use compatible connections: do not modify mains plugs, battery connectors, solar leads or the product casing.
  • Never connect to home circuits using a homemade lead: use licensed professionals for any fixed installation.
  • For a suspected battery fire: get out, stay out and call Triple Zero (000). Do not try to move a large smoking battery or expose yourself to fumes.

If something overheats or starts smoking, follow Fire and Rescue NSW emergency advice. Electricity and battery failures can continue to pose a danger after the supply is switched off. For installation, maintenance and battery compatibility, follow the official guides rather than internet shortcuts.

What to verify before buying

  • Exact battery: confirm the order contains one original B300 rated at 3,072Wh, not a B300K or an inverter-only listing.
  • Included leads: check the battery link cable, AC charging cable, DC charging cables and any adapters shown for your chosen SKU.
  • Warranty in writing: BLUETTI Australia advertises four years but the linked My Generator specification says two years. Ask the retailer what applies to your purchase and both modules.
  • Australian model: confirm local output plugs, charging supply requirements, safety markings, returns and local support.
  • Installation: clarify whether you will simply plug appliances into the station or need an electrician-designed home connection.
  • Load and runtime: write down appliance wattages and use the runtime examples above as starting estimates.
  • Storage and transport: check actual dimensions, secure carrying arrangements and ventilation.
  • Stock and price: confirm current availability, freight and whether accessories are extra.

Should you choose a different backup power option?

Smaller integrated battery power station

Choose an all-in-one station for easier one-person handling, basic camping appliances or occasional short outages. You may surrender some storage expansion and high-output capability, but you avoid regularly managing two heavy modules.

Fuel-powered inverter generator

A petrol generator may be more practical where very long runtime is needed and safe refuelling is available. It brings fuel storage, servicing, noise and carbon monoxide risks, and must never operate indoors, in a tent, garage or enclosed space. Compare those trade-offs in our GENPOWER inverter generator comparison.

Professionally installed home battery system

Consider a fixed battery and inverter solution if your main goal is automatic supply to selected home circuits. A licensed installer can assess the existing solar system, switchboard, protection, backup loads and state requirements. It is a different category from a portable power station.

Frequently asked questions

Is the B300 the same as the B300K?

No. The original B300 is rated at 3,072Wh; the B300K is rated at 2,764.8Wh. Confirm which battery appears in the listing and on the invoice.

Can I charge this one-battery bundle at 5,400W?

Not under BLUETTI’s published conditions. The combined 5,400W figure requires at least two B300 batteries. With one B300 the published combined maximum is 3,000W, subject to compatible equipment and supply.

Can it power my entire house through a wall socket?

No. Do not connect it to a household wall socket to power home wiring. A properly designed fixed connection requires a licensed electrician and suitable switching and protection.

Is the warranty two or four years?

The sources conflict: BLUETTI Australia lists four years while the retailer product listing shows two. Obtain the current applicable terms in writing before purchasing.

Final Firebusters recommendation

For Australian buyers who want modular, stationary emergency power and can accommodate nearly 58kg of equipment, the AC300 with original B300 is a sensible product to shortlist. Its strengths are the 3,000W total AC output, published 3,072Wh starting capacity, flexible charging routes and scope for additional B300 modules.

It is not our preferred style of product for minimal camping setups or people moving a power station regularly. We would first establish the expected appliance load, required outage hours, available charging supply and safe storage position. Then compare the full cost with an integrated power station or fixed backup solution.

Before ordering: confirm the original B300 battery, the one-battery charging limit, the included cables and the written warranty. These details matter more than a headline maximum input figure.
