The BULLET Pro 4.7m Multi-Purpose Ladder is a folding aluminium ladder designed to change between several configurations rather than doing just one job.
Its published specifications include a 120kg maximum total load, 15 steps, A-frame, straight-ladder, stand-off and scaffold-style configurations, plus a compact folded size for storage. But with a ladder like this, the useful question is not simply how many shapes it can make — it is whether the configuration, load rating and setup are suitable for the job you actually need to do.
Best suited to: homeowners and DIY users who want one compact ladder for several relatively short access and maintenance jobs.
Its folding design is genuinely versatile, but the exact setup instructions matter.
For workplace or trade use, we recommend confirming the exact Australian Standard / industrial-grade documentation for this SKU before relying on the 120kg rating alone.

What Does “4.7m” Actually Mean?
The 4.7m figure refers to the ladder in its fully extended straight configuration. It should not be interpreted as a safe standing height or as permission for the user to climb to 4.7 metres.
The BULLET manual specifically says that in straight-ladder mode you should never stand on the top three rungs and never stand on or above the third rung from the top.
In A-frame or step-ladder mode, the manual says never to stand on or above the second rung from the top.
choose a ladder based on the safe position required to do the job, not simply the biggest number in the product name.
What Configurations Can It Be Used In?
One of the main reasons to consider this model is that the hinged sections allow several approved configurations.
The BULLET manual illustrates:
- single and double step-ladder configurations;
- straight / extension ladder positions;
- a stand-off position for certain wall-access tasks;
- a low scaffold/platform configuration using the supplied plates; and
- a compact folded storage position.
That flexibility can save storage space if you would otherwise need separate step and extension ladders.
However, the manual is also very clear: do not create your own configuration. Only use positions illustrated in the instructions.
The Hinge Locks Deserve Your Attention
Folding ladders depend heavily on their hinge-locking system. That makes correct setup more important than simply hearing the hinge make a click.
BULLET instructs users to release paired hinges together, move the ladder section into the required approved position and then visually check the locking indicator.
The manual specifically warns that the hinge may appear to click into place while still requiring a visual check that it is fully locked.
That is a useful point to remember every time the configuration is changed.
Stabiliser Bars Are Not Optional
Before use, the two stabiliser bars need to be installed securely at the ends of the side rails.
The manufacturer manual says the ladder must not be used without the stabiliser bars attached, and they should be checked before weight is placed on the ladder.
The rubber feet also need to be fully supported on firm, dry and level ground.
Do not try to gain extra height by packing material underneath the ladder or stabiliser bars.
Using the Supplied Scaffold Plates
Two platform plates are supplied and the manufacturer shows them being used in certain low scaffold-style configurations.
When the selected configuration requires the plates, the manual says both plates must be correctly fitted, with the raised surface facing upward and the locking hooks properly engaged.
They must also be kept clean and free of anything that could create a slip or trip hazard.
Do not assume that the included plates turn the ladder into a substitute for every form of workplace scaffold.
The appropriate access equipment depends on the task, duration and fall risk.
Straight Ladder Setup: Use the 1-in-4 Rule
In straight or extension-ladder mode, BULLET specifies an angle of approximately 75 degrees.
Another easy way to remember this is the 1-in-4 rule: for every four metres of vertical height, the foot of the ladder should be approximately one metre away from the supporting structure.
The ladder needs a secure support surface, and the user should remain facing the ladder when climbing up or down.
The 120kg Rating Includes More Than Your Body Weight
The manual states that the maximum total capacity is 120kg.
Importantly, that is the combined weight of:
- the person using the ladder;
- tools being carried or used; and
- any materials being taken onto the ladder.
For example, someone weighing close to the ladder’s maximum capacity cannot simply add a tool bag and materials on top of that rating.
Australian Standards and Workplace Use
This is one area where the old Firebusters article needed correcting.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says there is currently no mandatory Australian consumer safety standard for ladders.
That does not mean standards are unimportant — it means buyers need to look carefully at the intended use and product documentation.
For workplace use, the requirements can be more demanding.
WorkSafe Victoria states that workplace ladders need to meet the relevant requirements of AS 1892.1:2018, be industrial grade, and have a minimum 120kg safe working load.
The current Edisons page and the BULLET manual confirm a 120kg load rating, but during this review we did not find an explicit AS 1892.1 certification statement for the exact LDRTELBULA47M SKU.
if you intend to use this ladder in a workplace, do not assume that a 120kg rating by itself proves industrial-grade or AS 1892.1 compliance. Ask the supplier for the current compliance documentation for this exact model before purchase.
Aluminium and Electricity Do Not Mix
This ladder is aluminium, and the BULLET manual prominently warns that metal conducts electricity.
It should not contact live electrical wiring or be treated as suitable equipment where an electrical hazard exists.
WorkSafe Victoria also advises using a non-conductive ladder, such as fibreglass, where electrical hazards are present.
What to Know Before Buying
- 4.7m is not your safe standing height. The upper rungs have clear restrictions.
- 120kg is the total load. User, tools and materials all count.
- Correct hinge locking is critical. Visually check the indicator, not just the sound of a click.
- Stabiliser bars must be fitted. The manual says not to use the ladder without them.
- Only approved configurations should be used. Do not improvise shapes.
- The aluminium construction conducts electricity.
- Workplace compliance needs verification. We found the 120kg rating, but not an explicit AS 1892.1 certification statement for this exact SKU.
- At 13kg bare and about 18kg with plates, it is portable but not featherweight.
Multi-Purpose Ladder vs Dedicated Ladder Types
| Type | Main advantage | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| BULLET multi-purpose | Several configurations in one compact unit | More hinges and setup steps to check correctly |
| Standard A-frame | Simple setup for lower-height jobs | Less reach and versatility |
| Dedicated extension ladder | Purpose-designed for straight access work | Cannot normally self-support as an A-frame |
| Platform ladder | More stable working position for suitable tasks | Larger storage footprint and less multi-use flexibility |
| Fibreglass ladder | Better choice where electrical hazards may exist | Can be heavier and more expensive |
Practical Ladder Safety Checklist
- Read the exact BULLET manual before first use.
- Inspect the ladder, hinges, rungs, feet and stabiliser bars before every use.
- Set it on firm, stable, dry and level ground.
- Make sure every required locking mechanism is fully engaged.
- Keep your body centred between the side rails.
- Do not overreach — climb down and reposition the ladder.
- Do not move or reconfigure the ladder while someone is on it.
- Wear footwear with good grip.
- Do not work in unsuitable wet or windy conditions.
- Keep people away from underneath the ladder or scaffold position.
- Keep the combined user, tool and material load below 120kg.
- Do not use aluminium ladders around live electrical hazards.

Who Should Consider This Ladder?
This BULLET model makes the most sense where storage space is limited and several different types of occasional ladder jobs need to be covered by one product.
For a homeowner doing gutter access, painting, cleaning, maintenance or other suitable short-duration tasks, the multiple configurations may be more useful than owning separate ladders.
Who may need something different?
- Electrical work: consider an appropriate non-conductive ladder rather than aluminium.
- Regular workplace use: choose equipment with clearly documented workplace / industrial compliance for the jurisdiction and task.
- Long-duration work at height: a ladder may not be the most appropriate access system.
- Very simple low-level jobs: a conventional platform or step ladder may be easier to set up.
- Heavy users plus tools: remember the total combined load cannot exceed the published 120kg rating.
Our Final Verdict
The BULLET Pro 4.7m Multi-Purpose Ladder has a genuine practical advantage: it gives a homeowner several useful configurations without storing several separate ladders.
The exact manual is also far better than the old Firebusters article suggested. It provides proper instructions for the hinge locks, stabiliser bars, scaffold plates, safe rung limits and extension-ladder angle.
What we would not do is describe it broadly as “Australian Standards compliant” or automatically suitable for professional workplace use without seeing certification for this exact SKU.
Recommendation: worth considering as a versatile home and DIY ladder if its 120kg total load rating and approved configurations suit your work. For workplace use, electrical hazards or frequent work at height, verify the required compliance and consider whether a more specialised ladder or higher-order access system is the safer choice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the exact model number?
The current Edisons listing identifies this BULLET Pro model as LDRTELBULA47M.
Does the 4.7m figure mean I can stand 4.7m high?
No. The figure relates to the fully extended ladder. The manual restricts use of the top rungs, so safe standing height is lower.
What is the maximum load?
The manufacturer states 120kg maximum total load. That includes the user plus tools and materials.
How small does it fold?
The current specification gives compact dimensions of approximately 60 × 36 × 125cm.
How much does it weigh?
The ladder itself is listed at about 13kg, increasing to approximately 18kg when the supplied scaffold plates are included.
Can it be used as a scaffold platform?
The manual shows specific low scaffold-style configurations using the supplied plates. Use only the configurations illustrated by BULLET and fit the plates exactly as instructed.
Is it certified to Australian ladder standards?
During this review we found the published 120kg load rating, but did not find an explicit AS 1892.1 certification statement for this exact SKU in the current product listing or manual. Workplace buyers should request current compliance documentation from the supplier before purchase.
Can I use it near electrical wiring?
Aluminium conducts electricity. The manufacturer warns against contact with live electrical wiring. Where electrical hazards exist, an appropriate non-conductive ladder should be considered.
